Change with the Season

Last time I wrote about rewriting the story I tell myself about being a creature of habit. I reflected on the many new adventures I have chosen and created a structure to keep that spirit alive.

Coming out of those reflections, I have decided that during the month of October I will be doing something new or different every day. The seasons are changing and so will I.

In preparation I have been brainstorming a list of ideas. I sort of laughed at myself for making a list as that is how I do things. Always like to be organized and prepared.

But then I remembered that anticipation is one of the four stages of happiness according to Gretchen Rubin who wrote one of my favourite books, The Happiness Project. Gretchen found that each time she experienced a happy event she could increase the happiness by anticipating it, savouring it, expressing happiness to herself or others, and reflecting on it.

Part of the fun has been in creating a list of things to do, talking to other people about the idea and getting their input. And of course I find myself trying new things already even though the official project hasn’t begun.

I invite you to join me. Think about what new or different things you could do. Whether it is for a day, a week, or longer shaking up the routine can be joyful. And feel free to share your ideas as I am still building my list of 31 things!
